St. Paul, Minn. — At least a third of the candidates running for governor say they want to make sure post-secondary education is affordable and accessible.
Four DFLers and two Republicans made pledges Wednesday during a gubernatorial forum at Anoka Technical College. Republican state Rep. Marty Seifert of Marshall said his top priority as governor would be providing jobs for college graduates.
… DFL Rep. Paul Thissen of Minneapolis criticized Representative Marty Seifert and other GOP candidates for their repeated claims that Minnesota has a bad business climate.
“It’s a great place to start of business, and these myths that Rep. Seifert and others throw around saying everybody’s flocking away from Minnesota because of one single thing, is terrible for this state,” Thissen said. “We don’t need a governor who’s going to continue down that path.”

While Paul was attending the DFL Halloween Party in Chisago County and CD3 Blue Ticket Event on Saturday evening, I headed up to Nisswa for the Crow Wing/Cass County DFL Dinner. The Nisswa American Legion was packed, and the energy level was high.
There are many great DFL elected officials up there who have to fight hard to keep their seats each cycle. Each speaker got to raffle off a live auction item after giving their speech (I raffled off an Al Franken T-shirt along with a beautiful necklace & earrings).
Even though it was far from a typical “date night”, at least Paul and I were giving speeches at the same time and it was fun to compare notes over our cell phones on the way home from our different locations!
Be sure to check out the calendar to find out where Paul and I will be traveling this week. Look forward to seeing you at event soon!

Ten Democrats with their eyes on the governor’s mansion traveled to Rochester Wednesday night eager to woo potential voters.
As the courting started, it soon became clear that voters have high expectations when it comes to picking a candidate. Rochester resident Dennis Siemsen summed up a question on the minds of many local DFLers — “What is it going to take to elect a Democrat?”
…After four rounds, voters were given “ladies and gentlemen’s’ choice” as to which candidate they wanted to hear from. Big crowds migrated to Dayton and Rybak with Kelliher and Thissen coming in close behind.
