Hopkins Candidate Forum Warm Up

November 30, 2009| Posted in Front Page Slideshow, Karen's Corner

P1060834The kids and I had a fun time warming up the crowd before Wednesday’s Candidate Forum in Hopkins sponsored by DFL Congressional Districts 3 & 5 and Senate District 44.

There was a big audience of about 700 attendees, and a high energy atmosphere.   We enlisted our six year-old, Evan, to put stickers on people. His trail was obvious with people passing by with “Thissen” stickers at belly-button level (which is as high as he can reach)!

The kids have gotten used to kidding around with other candidates, and in this picture, they thought it was pretty funny when candidate Tom Rukavina asked if he could be part of the family picture I was taking.

Paul did a great job at the forum (click here to listen!) and got a huge round of applause after his closing statement.   Overall, a great event, and great to see that many people paying attention to the race.

We hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving and, as always, we look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail soon!

Have a great week,

-Karen

State Rep. Paul Thissen (DFL-Minneapolis) finished a mad dash of traveling through eight northwest Minnesota counties in 43 hours with a stop in Detroit Lakes’ Sunflower Hill Coffee & Gifts on Tuesday morning.

Thissen, chairman of the House Heath and Human Services Policy Committee is building his campaign on health care reform and how lowering costs would help ease the state’s budget problems.

“The aging of our population is a huge challenge we face,” he said.

Warm Welcome from SD 38 in Eagan

November 24, 2009| Posted in Front Page Slideshow, Karen's Corner

P1060824Paul has been spending a lot of time in greater Minnesota, so I have been going to events closer to home to speak on his behalf.
Although I am sure that the audiences would rather have the candidate himself, I have been struck by how amazing various groups have been in making me feel warmly welcomed.

This week at SD 38 in Eagan, I was put on the agenda as a special guest, and the meeting chairs made sure I was introduced to everyone.  I was given plenty of time to hear what was on people’s minds and to talk about Paul’s campaign.   It felt more like a fun evening out than a campaign stop!

I hope everybody has a Happy Thanksgiving! Look forward to seeing you after the holiday weekend.

Paul likes to communicate with Minnesotans.

That’s why he keeps an aggressive travel schedule criss-crossing the state and why he spends countless hours on the phone, dialing away.

It’s also why we enjoy social media tools. The campaign is already active on YouTube (19 videos and counting), Facebook (416 fans and counting) and Twitter (438 followers & 104 tweets and counting). They’re a great way to connect with average Minnesotans on their terms. Even if your schedule makes it difficult to come out and meet Paul in person, we want to make sure you still have a chance to connect with him and the campaign.

Many people use Facebook and Twitter as just another outlet for press releases. We really believe that people want more than that. They want candidates and campaigns to have real conversations with them. We try to engage our supporters on Facebook and when we have free time on the road, we started doing “Twitter Town Halls” where we invite people to ask us questions (and Paul tries to cram his answers into 140 characters). The feedback was promising and our new followers and fans asked for more, so now we’re trying something different. Live chat with uStream.

You submit your questions via Twitter (hash tag #TNC10), Facebook or the uStream chat room and we will answer as many as we can in an hour.

We’ll be chattin’ with you soon,

The Thissen Team

It’s a Group Effort

November 16, 2009| Posted in Front Page Slideshow, Karen's Corner

P1060823One of the best things about the campaign is that each week we get to see lots of different friends and neighbors who are volunteering or hosting various events for Paul.  It is like having mini-reunions all along the campaign trail.

The schedule for Paul is intense, so the energy of seeing and feeling people making this a group effort really keeps him going.  We had a number of fun events this week in Greater Minnesota, in the suburbs and right in our own neighborhood.  And another great part is that new friends are being made all along the way!

Looking at the calendar I can see that we have a busy schedule ahead of us and I really hope to get a chance to meet you at an upcoming event soon.

Have a great week everybody!
