Transportation & Infrastructure
January 1, 2010| Posted in Transportation & InfrastructureThe Vision:
The next Governor must be committed to build a statewide infrastructure—comprised of 21st century roadways and environmentally responsible mass transportation systems—that supports economic growth in all parts of the state.
The Details:
For too long, the state has not met its basic responsibility to maintain and update Minnesota’s state infrastructure. Numerous bridges have been deemed unsafe, and we have failed to build mass transportation systems that sufficiently support our growing population. Fortunately, the next Governor has the opportunity to change the course of our infrastructure policy and make the investments Minnesotans deserve.
The Hiawatha line and soon to be developed Central Corridor are strong first steps towards modernizing the Twin City’s infrastructure. A further expanded, integrated network of lines across the metro area will make each life stronger and more cost effective. I am committed to making that a reality by 2025.
We must also remember that transit is a benefit to be enjoyed statewide, and will be increasingly needed as our population ages. The next Governor must promote and actively pursue the construction of a commuter train between St. Cloud and Minneapolis, between Duluth and St. Paul, and regionally between the Twin Cities and Chicago.
