THISSEN FOR GOVERNOR CAMPAIGN MAKES LEADERSHIP HIRE

Gia Vitali joins Thissen team as Campaign Manager

Minneapolis, MN – 2010 gubernatorial candidate and State Representative Paul Thissen (DFL) announced today he has hired Gia Vitali to lead his campaign for statewide office. Thissen is working to become the first DFLer since 1986 to be elected governor of Minnesota.
Vitali, 32, is a Little Canada, MN native and most recently served as political director for Progressive Majority in Minnesota. There she recruited, trained and helped elect progressive champions to state and local office. Prior to her work at Progressive Majority, Vitali managed the 2006 Hennepin County Attorney campaign for Andy Luger and was a long-time aide to Congresswoman Betty McCollum. Her start in DFL politics came as an aide to Congressman Bruce Vento.

Vitali said of her move to the Thissen campaign, “This is a really exciting opportunity. Representative Thissen is a thoughtful and respected leader in our community and at the legislature and I am proud to work for him.

“In just a few short months of campaigning, Paul has made huge strides in fundraising during challenging economic times, while at the same time continuing his statewide travels to hear from folks in every corner of Minnesota. He’ll be a governor that includes these same voters in the conversation when he’s making decisions that affect their communities. He’ll be a governor we can all be proud of.”

Thissen said, “Running a statewide campaign is a big job and we’re thrilled Gia has joined our team to help lead us to victory. Her talent and experience over the years are a great addition to the campaign.”

Paul Thissen is a four-term legislator representing house district 63A (encompassing Richfield and the southwest corner of Minneapolis). Representative Thissen chairs the House Committee on Health and Human Services and led the charge to pass the Children’s Health Security Act which resulted in nearly 40,000 Minnesota kids gaining access to health care.
