Access to Justice

Sep 18, 2020 | News | 0 comments

Making sure Minnesotans have access to justice has been a passion for me since my earliest days as a lawyer. I represented for free victims of domestic abuse, a family with a disabled son seeking assistance, individuals fleeing torture and seeking asylum in the United States, a woman starting a small business, and many others. As Chair of my firms’s pro bono committee, I lead efforts that doubled the hours of free legal services we provides.

The truth is that we have a big access to justice gap in our state. Legal Aid lawyers do amazing work – but due to lack of resources, they must turn tens of thousands of Minnesotans away each year. These are folks facing eviction and families who may not be able to stay together. We need to do better.

As Justice on the Supreme Court, I have made it a top priority to make changes to our court system so as many people as possible have competent help to allow them to navigate the legal system. I want to continue that work with your support in the election this fall.
